Sara Leone serves as a faculty member in the College of Business and Health Administration at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. Her teaching responsibilities primarily include managerial accounting and taxes from the undergraduate to the graduate level. In teaching, Sara seeks to inspire students to reach for their highest career goals, encourages them to deliver their personal best and to continually improve themselves through personal and professional development. Sara feels that her life’s work as an accounting professor has afforded her the opportunity to work with talented people in an environment where discipline-specific courses are supported, where the contemplation and discussion of business ethics can be rooted in Franciscan values and where the outcome of her work is the advancement of men and women in a business career.
Sara also maintains an accounting practice located in Plainfield, Illinois specializing in individual taxation and Subchapter S Corporations where she assists her clients in tax preparation and planning. This practice began in 1984 and distinguishes itself by providing the highest quality professional service with a personal touch. In addition to tax preparation and planning, Sara has also been recognized as an “expert witness” in the development of financial models.
Sara has been awarded the university-wide Achievement in Service Award in Spring, 2008 by the University of St. Francis and serves on various university-wide committees. Sara serves as a national board member of Delta Mu Delta, the international honor society in business, and represents Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada at the national level. She also serves on the Advisory Board for the Illinois Accounting Teacher’s Conference, Lockport Township High School Business Advisory Council and Joliet Junior College Accounting Advisory Board.
Sara’s educational background includes an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Arizona, a Master of Science in Accounting with an emphasis in taxation from Northern Illinois University and doctoral coursework at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Married to her high school sweetheart since 1976, Sara and her husband Tony reside in Plainfield have three children and three grandchildren. Sara is an active member of St. Anne’s Parish, St. Anne’s Council of Catholic Woman and the church choir.
