Many students spend spring break in the sunny south, relaxing on the beach. Two officers from Methodist University’s Eta Sigma Chapter spent their break a little farther south, and what they did wasn’t likely to be identified as relaxing on the beach. Zack Sweet and Davis Agnew spent spring break with a group of Methodist University students in Nicaragua. Davis, the chapter’s treasurer, stands by with his shovel as Zack, the chapter’s president, swings his pick to loosen the earth for Davis’ shovel.
Campus Ministry at Methodist organized the trip to work on projects improve conditions in a village there. These trips not only provide much needed help to villagers, but provide participants with opportunities to expand their world view, interact with cultures other than their own and develop a life-long habit of using their skills and gifts to do good — all part of the DMD ideal inherent in our motto “Through knowledge, power.”
